🥕PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY OF CARROT 🥕

Production technology of carrot 🥕

  1. PREPARATION OF LAND

  • Select the suitable soil (light and well drained loamy soils).

  • The Ph range of soil should be between 6.6-7.1.

  • Deep loam and loamy soils are preferred for good crop production.

  •     For early crop, a sandy loamy soils are preferred and for high yields, slit or slit loamy soils are preferred.

  • Make the rows as recommended distance of 30*10 cm

  • Plough the soil with addition of farm yard manure of 25-30 tons/hectare.

  1. NUTRIENT  MANAGEMENT

  • Add farm yard manure of 25-30 tons to main field, at the time of field preparation.

  • Add 40-60 kg/ha Nitrogen, 40-50 kg/ha Posphorous, 80-100 kg/ha potash.

  • Application of N should be in split doses, first dose is at the time of field preparation and second dose is at 30-45 days after seed sowing.

  • Other are applied during field preparation time in a single dose.

  1. CLIMATIC REQUIREMENT

  • Carrot is basically adapted to grow in cold conditions.

  • A temperature range of 7.2to23.9*C for seed production .seed stock formation takes place when these plants are subjected to a temperature of 12.2 to21.2*C.

  • If the plant grows continuously at a temperate region range of 21.1-26.7*C fails to develop   floral primordial.

  1. SOWING OF SEEDS

  • Sowing time: August to November is the optimum time for sowing of Asiatic group while for European types it is October to November.

  • Seed rate: 5-6kg/ha.

  • Spacing: 30*10cm.

  • For better root formation sow the seeds on ridges than in flat land.

  • Seeds takes 8-10 days for germination.

  • After germination, when the plant attain height of 5-6 cm, thinning is to be done.

  1. IRRIGATION TO THE FIELD

  • Irrigate the field just after sowing of seeds.

  • The optimum level of moisture is required for good germination in the field.

  • The crop should be irrigated at an interval of 5-7 days gap, depending upon rain or weather conditions.

  1. WEEDING

  • Apply pendimethalin in field before seed sowing, for weed control.

  • Generally tow weedings are required, at 15-20 and 30-35 days after sowing.

  • Otherwise apply propazine@1.12kg/ha or monuron@1kg/ha.

  1. HARVESTING

  • Generally the harvesting is done by using of hand picking only.

  • The crop is ready for harvest after 65-85 days of seed sowing.

  • Harvesting of roots depend upon  the varieties.

  1. CROP YIELD

  • The temperate types are poor yielder and produce about 100-150q/ha.

  • But tropical type yield is higher i.e. 250-300q/ha.

Landscape design for beginners article by Rupa kumari

Planning and designing of your outdoor Space start your plan: Draw a bird's-eye view of your property, noting the placement of all the man-made features (called hardscape) such as buildings, fences, driveways, stonewalls, etc. Boulders, trees, and large shrubs combine with your hardscape to form the "bones" of your landscape. Using graph paper helps, but you don't have to agonize over exact measurements, a sketch that is roughly in proportion will be fine. Make sure to include the location of your well, septic system, or any buried utility lines. Orient your lot on the compass and note where your sunny and shady spots are. Make a wishlist: Once you know what you've already got, you can move on to making a list of what you'd like to have. How do you want your garden to look? Start with a few general goals. For example: Do you want privacy for a patio area? Do you want to screen an ugly view? Is your top priority curb appeal/resale-value
